Our life is like a bridge over the river of time; Every drop of water, leaf, and twig drifting under, echoes a similar rhyme. Everything caught in its currents never passes by again, Like fleeting moments, ever eluding our grasp, signaling the plight of men. The leaves and twigs are like the wood, hay, and stubble of our lives; On Judgment Day, they will burn up as the Lord, by fire, He tries. These are but dead works caught up in the current of mainstream opinion, Swayed by every eddy, stirred with sand and silt, by the river’s dominion. God is the only constant in our river of time; His care for us is forever, whatever passes under the line. When storms of life rage, bringing dark, foreboding water, We hear, “Peace, be still,” from the lips of our Heavenly Father. Bread cast upon the waters shall return to us after many days; Unlike the leaves and twigs that represent our own carnal ways. Only the things we do for God reap a reward and return to us; The balance of life’s toils are only vexation of spirit causing fret and fuss. Jesus is the Bread of Life, pure and eternal, free from corrupting leaven. His word is yea and amen, and forever settled in Heaven; His grace and mercy endures forever to His blood bought own. Freed from the river of time, we will sing praises to Him forever before God’s Throne.
