The dash between the dates is especially relevant, if drawn by God on our behalf. Every line drawn only by fallen man, is drawn in vain; his best effort is only a golden calf. He cannot bring any sacrifice to the altar of any value to God except a broken and contrite heart; There is no other clay He will shape, unless broken and pliable; this He sets for Himself apart. Man cannot earn his own salvation; he cannot, of his own efforts, please God in any way. “Our righteousnesses are as filthy rags;” only faith in Him can carry the day. The dash between the dates becomes straight and narrow when we surrender to his will; Even if the path becomes rough and steep, it will always lead to Heaven; His Hand will lead us still. The earlier in life God acquaints our dash, the better for us it will be; But God can straighten, late in life, our dash, no matter how broken and crooked, for all to see. Many horrendous horrors can God spare us, if we surrender early in life to His Call; Our dash can be longer and more glorious if we, from our youth, submit to Him our all.
