The Cloud

God provided a cloud for the children of Israel to walk in by day;
      Walking through the wilderness of Sinai, they were safe, if their feet did not stray.
The enemies of Israel were confounded; they could only watch with confusion;
      Earthly and sensual, they could not see, so they could come to no conclusion.

As God’s born-again believers, walking through this world of today,
      We journey through a wilderness of sin and darkness and moral decay.
Our enemies observe us as we walk in fellowship with God’s cloud of witnesses;
      Earthly and sensual, they do not understand our walk of mutual love and forgiveness.

Scriptures admonish us to abide in the vine, sustained by God’s Living Water;
      With our fellow branches, we bask in warm Sonlight from the Father.
The Root of Jesse bears us; we never stray off on our own.
      The enemy of our soul cannot get to us, if we never go it alone.

The blood-bought church is our cloud in these last days;
      It shades us from the heat of persecution and all the devil’s worldly ways.
Predatory eyes are confused and confounded by its Heavenly Mist;
      Our path becomes straight and narrow, as our Savior insists.

Composed by Jim Newnam
Psalm 51:7
“Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.”

The six-pointed Star of David is the symbol of the hyssop blossom. I have adopted the Star of David as an emblem of God’s Goodness, and Salvation.
