When a brother sharpens the countenance of his brother, it is iron against iron – sparks must fly; Care must be taken these sparks do not ignite passion, or a friendship can die. If passion is tempered with love, rough edges become smoother – character is refined; God is pleased as scripture is fulfilled; life becomes richer; this is how true friendship is defined. Pretense is separated from reality as facade is stripped away, revealing true emotion; Vanity becomes a casualty as truth becomes the victor – the result of this commotion. Friendship becomes stronger as hearts become closer, in spite of the pain; Trust becomes the by-product; its presence is a source of great gain. “Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful,” Solomon’s proverbs say; Let us therefore treasure true friends, and thank God for sending them our way. Life becomes richer with each new friendship gained; true wealth is increased. Christian friendship is most precious of all; it continues on forever, after we decease.
