Jacob’s Walk

Jacob’s walk is a straight and narrow walk, only a Godly canter doth he make;
      A worldly stride is not in his foot, he swaggers not, with any step he doth take.
An idle and thoughtless posture, in him, is rare, though perfect he is not;
      He is still flesh and blood, redeemed by the blood of his savior; humanity is still his lot.

Never pretentious nor boasting, and with a sincere heart, his conversations stand;
      His walk is in the Spirit, his thoughts are tempered by God’s Word, not by fallen man.
This is only a portrait of my aspirations, a model of my desire, of what I fain to be;
      I can only live and walk from day to day, read God’s Word, and petition on bended knee.

From glory to glory, here a little, there a little, is all the progress God will cause me to make;
      Line upon line, precept upon precept, must He burn within my heart; all the credit is His to take.
Molding me slowly on His Potter’s Wheel, adding Living Water with tender touch, till He is done;
      Slowly I take shape, rough edges removed, becoming conformed to the image of His Son.

Composed by Jim Newnam
Psalm 51:7
“Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.”

The six-pointed Star of David is the symbol of the hyssop blossom. I have adopted the Star of David as an emblem of God’s Goodness and Salvation.
