Ancient Warriors

All the nations of the world recruit the young, the vibrant, the strong,
      for their military;
Those that are too old and weak are passed over, rejected and sent home –
      they are not necessary.
God’s ways are not our ways, His thoughts are not our thoughts,
      for most of God’s warriors are gray;
Their hands, though gnarled and wrinkled, have worn out many Bibles,
      and their knees hurt when they pray.

Their brows bear the mark of many years of warfare,
      in service to the Captain of their soul;
Their voices are feeble, when they raise anthems of praise and allegiance
      to their Lord that they extol.
General Patton, cursing long and loud though he might, could never
      inspire these warriors to obey;
They only snap to attention to God’s still, small voice that whispers
      encouragement along the way.

They are intercessory prayer warriors, directing their petitions
      to the attentive ear of their Lord;
These prayers carry great weight, for God desires His saints to seek Him,
      and He is swayed by love’s strong cord.
“The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much,”
      the Holy Scriptures resound;
Elijah’s prayer caused God to withhold rain for three-and-a-half years
      to bring an evil monarch down.

America’s greatness has never been their military might –
      it has always been these Ancient Warriors;
Precious old saints, bombarding Heaven’s Gates, causing God to rebuke
      America’s would-be destroyers.
God has been collecting their precious tears in vials, while savoring
      the sweet incense of their pleas;
Because of these Ancient Warriors, America has stood tall,
      prevailing above all others, from its knees.

Composed by Jim Newnam
Psalm 51:7
“Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow."

The six-pointed Star of David is the symbol of the hyssop blossom. I have adopted the Star of David as an emblem of God’s Goodness and Salvation.
