Ambition

A merciless taskmaster is ambition;
      It drives the soul, and snatches it away from Godly contrition.
Once its fetters attach to the human heart,
      It binds the soul to mammon, tearing it apart.

The human heart was created for love and to seek its Creator.
      Ambition perverts and enslaves that love to something it thinks is greater.
Mammon’s sparkling cup allures the imagination to its intoxicating grip
      Where phantom dreams become hurtful lusts, and causes the saint to slip.

We must fix our eyes on Jesus and immerse ourselves in God’s Word,
      Praying in the Holy Ghost and holding to the gospel we have heard,
Submitting ourselves to God and resisting the devil, for he will flee;
      Staying under God’s Wing, making His mercy and grace our plea.

Composed by Jim Newnam.
Psalm 51:7
“Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.”

The six-pointed Star of David is the symbol of the hyssop blossom. I have adopted the Star of David as an emblem of God’s Goodness and Salvation.
