Waiting on God

Wait on the Lord. Actively wait for God. Fill the time you spend waiting with praise. Praise Him who gave you new life as you focus your attention on God. Aggressively seek out what God has prepared for you as you wait for His plan to come together.

Psalm 123:2 We keep looking to the LORD our God for His mercy, just as servants keep their eyes on their master, as a slave girl watches her mistress for the slightest signal.
Honor Him before witnesses by waiting on Him as an honored guest. Wait on Him hand and foot, pouring the perfume of praise on His head and washing His feet with your tears of thankfulness. Fight off anything that would distract your attention or pull you away from being close enough to see or hear His slightest wish and responding immediately.

Psalm 130
v.5 I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in His word I put my hope.
v.6 My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning.

Magnify the Lord. Just as a glass lens will make small details easier to see, so our experiences as we walk with God will let us testify to and share with others about the care God has for the smallest things in our lives. We are the lenses through which the world can see God.

Psalm 34:3 Magnify the LORD with me! Let's praise his name together!

God will honor our obedience. When the Lord tells us to draw a container of water, He makes it a choice vintage when we serve it. When He asks us to give what we have, He takes our proffered lunch and lets thousands feast from it.

Deuteronomy 32:30 “How could one chase a thousand, And two put ten thousand to flight, Unless their Rock had sold them, And the LORD had given them up?"

God will multiply our efforts. At times we feel like we are about to be overrun by the hordes of oppressive thoughts on our minds and the avalanche of demands at work or home and the endless series of problems we have to deal with from family or friends, but there is no place to go. So we just stand firm, trust in God's Word and hold up our sword, closing our eyes and bracing for the impact as we hurtle toward the brick wall.

Joshua 23
v.10 One of you routs a thousand, because the Lord your God fights for you, just as He promised.
v.11 So be very careful to love the Lord your God.

The shattering crash never comes, and we peek out from under one eyelid and find that it has all evaporated down to a couple of manageable issues. If we glance over our shoulder, we might catch a glimpse of the armies of heaven who stood with us and fought on our behalf. God never forsakes us.

Amos 5
v.6 Seek the Lord and live...
v.14 Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the Lord God Almighty will be with you, just as you say He is.
v.15 Hate evil, love good; maintain justice...
v.24 But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!

Psalm 130
v.7 O Israel, put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with Him is full redemption.
v.8 He Himself will redeem Israel from all their sins.
Loving Father, gracious Lord, when the tumult is too great, we just turn to You and bury our face in Your chest. You wrap Your arms around us and hold us till the storm passes. In the strength of Your love we go forth in obedience and stand in the truth You have given us. We give of what we have to those who need it, for that is Your nature. No weapon formed against us can prosper, for that is Your promise. The night of the past is gone, and this day is Your gift to us. We rejoice in it, for that is Your pleasure. Thank You, Lord!
