The Wise Still Seek Him

Matthew 7
v.24 Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
v.26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.

Matthew 25:2 Five of them were foolish and five were wise
In times of difficulty, wisdom can make a difference in the outcome. The word "wise" is variously translated as "prudent," or "sensible." However, the word "foolish" is consistent through the different versions.

In each case the difference between the two groups of people has nothing to do with whether they accept Christ or not; one group is not described as "good" and the other "evil." The difference lies in what they do with their opportunities and their time.

Matthew 7:7 "Keep asking, and it will be given to you. Keep searching, and you will find. Keep knocking, and the door will be opened to you.

Those who heed the caution to "keep on keeping on" will reach the higher ground on the solid rock away from the floods; they will find they have sufficient grace, or "oil" to tide them over when strength or will-power is not sufficient.

James 4:17 Whoever knows the good and does not do it, to him it is sin.

If distractions, or "little" sins, occupy your time and tie up your energy, there will be no opportunity to develop that all-important relationship with Christ, our Head, our Master, our Shepherd. We must spend time to learn His voice, to practice obedience.

Time spent with God is never wasted. The more time you spend looking into His heart, prayerfully reading His Word, sincerely offering praise and worship, the better you know Him.

Matthew 10:40 But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.

He loves each one of us individually, and considers each single person to be uniquely valuable and precious, a treasure. He knows the numbers of our hair because He has gazed at us longingly, consuming all there is to know about us. He knows what we enjoy and what we dislike. He has prepared things for us that will bring us deep joy and incredible pleasure, tailored specifically to the person. He delights in bringing us delights.

What do we know about Him? Have we spent time longingly desiring to know more about Him, poring through Scriptures to understand how He thinks, learning what He likes, discovering what gives Him pleasure? Gaining an idea of how awesome and terrible in majesty is the One who desires us to call Him "Father," and "Abba/Daddy"?

Psalm 32:6 Therefore let everyone who is faithful pray to You at a time that You may be found. When great floodwaters come, they will not reach him.
Father God, thank You for the Spirit of truth which guides us in the way we should go. Honor the desire of our hearts as we press in against the current to come closer to You and learn more about You. Thank You for making Yourself available if we simply take the time. We purpose to seek You while there is still opportunity; thank You for the wisdom to see the choices that are needed and the strength to make the right choices. We desire to know You as we are known by You, and to see You as we are seen by You.
