So much of what we do on a daily basis in our walk with God is preparation. Do not grow weary or casual in your practice. When we start the day by acknowledging that God created it and gave it to us, we give Him ownership of the time and the space and confirm Him to be Lord over us. The loving graces of the almighty God are to be preferred over the "tender mercies" of a vengeful foe. When we spend time first seeking God through reading His word, through conversation and listening, we open ourselves to be saturated with the knowledge of Him and the understanding of His ways. Rather to be guided by the wisdom and principles of the all-knowing God who created all that there is and the laws that govern the smooth and predictable behavior of the heavens, than to be ravaged by one who can only steal, kill, and destroy. When we fill the spare moments of our day by turning our hearts and minds, our thoughts and feelings, our purposes and intents to God, we seek His blessing and approval on the things we do, the words we speak, the places we go, that we might be about the Father's business, doing the work of the Kingdom in the midst of our daily activity. So much more desirable to bring the life-giving holiness of God into what we do and who we affect, than to yield our members to be used in spreading darkness and lies and filth and death from the father of lies. Psalm 37 v.16 Better the little that the righteous have than the wealth of many wicked; v.17 for the power of the wicked will be broken, but the Lord upholds the righteous. By practicing His presence minute by minute, we dwell in His peace, even though a storm is howling around us. By acknowledging His power and glory, we draw near His throne and experience His authority and protection, even though man-made structures of society fall around us. By giving voice to His praise and speaking His word, we stand firm even when temptations surround us and seek to drag us down. We hold mock fire drills and practice tornado warnings at school and at work so we will be prepared when danger arises, which can happen without warning. We need to constantly practice what we have learned in God's spiritual training so we will be ready when the enemy appears like a roaring lion, when the enemy comes in like a flood, when the fiery trials surround us. If we wait until the need is upon us, it will be too late to learn and practice what we need to already know. Do it now, make it a lifestyle, willingly give God the honor that He deserves. Humble your self before Him, so that in due time He can exalt you. Mark 4 v.24 "Consider carefully what you hear," He continued. "With the measure you use, it will be measured to you -- and even more. v.25 Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him." Father, You have given us little things to do, little steps to take. They do not exceed our reach or our strength, but they run against our grain and stir up our pride. Thank You, Lord that You give us another new day in which to practice, in which to lay down our strength and our desires and our images of our selves to take up Your tasks and do Your work and give You praise. We thank You for the Spirit Who walks with us, encouraging us, reminding us, prodding us when we forget, and empowering us as we make the effort in yielding to You, worthy Lord and Beloved of the Father. Thank You that You will prepare us for the work and the time to come. 4N19H06D
