God is Awesome

Our God is awesome. He is without measure; literally, measureless. Nothing we know or understand can be used to define Him or describe Him, for He is simply beyond our comprehension. His attributes defy description; we can experience His love, but we cannot convey the depth or height or strength of His love by any picture we draw or words we speak or write. The evidence of His power is visible both to our physical senses as we look to the microscopic and to the macroscopic, and to our inner senses where we evaluate what we can understand of God's mercy and justice, His grace and righteousness.

This is why His word describes us as His handiwork, as His witness to others. Not for what we can say, though our words are important, but for what others can see in our actions and reactions, the way God shapes and molds our personalities and thought processes. Others learn more about our Maker and our Redeemer by seeing our automatic responses and unconscious decisions than they do from our conscious choices.

Everybody has tried to make a habit, or break a habit, in their life time. We can have limited short-term success with will-power, but eventually our attention wavers and we revert to the unthinking, automatic response. That is why, when someone makes an unthinking reaction that glorifies God, and they do so regularly, others see it and take notice. Many want to know how they, too, can gain what that person has, they want to learn "the secret" they see in God's people. Then we can share the words that are in our heart, words from our heart, Words overflowing from His heart. What comes from the mind does not touch the heart; only what comes from the heart can touch another heart. A meeting of minds can forge a life-time friendship; a touching of hearts can bring eternal change.

We cannot control or direct the changes that have to take place deep within us. We can only yield our will to what the Spirit of God wants to do. To have the incomprehensible awesomeness of the holy Creator of the universe bring to bear His limitless understanding and ability in shaping us, repairing us, mending us to be living epistles of eternal love, joy, power, and righteousness, which are able to be read on the deepest level by others is deeply humbling to us, but brings majesty and praise to our God, which He deserves because He is so...awesome. 

Lord, You who are the center of the universe, yet not bounded by its limits, how utterly incredible that You choose to express Your nature through Your work in our lives. How incredibly amazing that You allow us to be involved in the work of Your plan of redemption as tools in Your hand, as workers in Your harvest fields, and as heirs of the family business. We walk in a sense of wonder at Your trust in us, as our trust in You grows with each new blessing You pour in our lives, each new work You accomplish in our hearts and minds, each new victory we experience as we grow in Your Word and Your Spirit. We love You, Father, and we devote ourselves to giving You the praise and obedience that You deserve.
