Beauty is a hallmark of God. It is visible everywhere in His handiwork. All of the beauty of creation is a reflection of the Creator's nature. When we were estranged from God by reason of our sinful nature, we could not see all the beauty that surrounded us. Momentary glimpses helped make us aware that there was more, there was something deeper, but we could not retain the vision of it. [estranged: a loss of affection, a turning away from someone. No longer close or affectionate to someone; alienated. To make hostile, unsympathetic, or indifferent.] When God brought us from death into life, He placed in us a new creation. Where there had been death, there was now the life of Christ, and the beauty of the Son of God began to develop and grow and shine out to those around as we accepted and embraced what we had been given. Our mind's eye became open to see beyond the surface and to distinguish the presence of the Holy One of Israel. Our thoughts turned to God frequently in love and joy and wonder and awe and worship. Psalm 29:2 Acknowledge the majesty of the LORD's reputation! Worship the LORD in holy attire! Aaron was designated as the first high priest of Israel, and skillful dyers, spinners, weavers, and embroiderers were brought together to make a wardrobe of suitable beauty, appropriate for the nature of his responsibility, one that would set him apart from the rest of the people, while he was ministering to God for the covering and forgetting of their sins. Psalm 93:5 LORD, Your testimonies are completely reliable; holiness is the beauty of Your house for all the days to come. Special care was given to the artifacts and utensils to be used in the Tabernacle, and later in the Temple. The generation's most skillful workers in metal, stone, wood, jewels, and cloth were given a spirit, a skill, a talent, an understanding, to work these materials and make items beautiful enough to be used in the praising, the worshiping, and the honoring of the Lord God Almighty. Psalm 96:9 Oh worship Jehovah in holy array: Tremble before him, all the earth. Repeatedly, we see wardrobe describing the character and the nature of God, and of His people. God is clothed in majesty and splendor and strength. His people are given robes of righteousness and justice and salvation, in holiness or completeness. From the Garden of Eden, God gave Adam and Eve coverings to hide the shame of their sin. But following the conquering of death, hell, and the grave by Jesus, the new Adam, His people are given spiritual wardrobes that reveal His nature as it grows and develops and increases inside of us. Our life is hidden with Christ in God and He is the One that the world is to see as we, who are pilgrims and strangers on earth, walk among them on the way to our eternal home, inviting and drawing those who respond to the Word of God that we speak to them. Psalm 45:11 For your royal husband delights in your beauty; honor Him, for He is your Lord. Our relationship to God's Son, our Savior, our Lord, our Master, is one of reverential awe and holy adoration at what lengths He has gone to in order to make it possible for us to receive Him into our hearts. When we understand what it means to realize that He would rather die than live without us, we can have faith that He will see us through to the end. Our trials are simply the purification rites required of the bride to be acceptable to the King's Son. Esther 2:12 Before a young woman’s turn came to go in to King Xerxes, she had to complete twelve months of beauty treatments prescribed for the women, six months with oil of myrrh and six with perfumes and cosmetics. Daniel 1:5 The king assigned them a daily amount of food and wine from the king’s table. They were to be trained for three years, and after that they were to enter the king’s service. If an earthly king required such a lengthy period of training in etiquette, protocol, behavior, appearance, diet, wardrobe, language, and more, how can we think it strange when we fail to see the realization of our dreams as soon as we might want? When we stop and consider the time we take to make ourselves presentable and acceptable when attending a special banquet or awards ceremony, we can begin to appreciate the time God is putting into us to make us ready for the victory banquet and wedding feast for His Son. 1 Peter 3:4 but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious. God, through the inspiration of Your Spirit, the last chapter of Proverbs describes the attributes of a wife that can be trusted by her spouse and be of value to him in all ways. We desire those characteristics to be developed in us both individually and corporately, that we may be pleasing and desirable to our Lord. We desperately want to represent the honor of our Master to all who surround us with the beauty of His awesome holiness and righteousness that He clothes us with in attribution. We thank You for the training that You give us now, Lord, that we might not bring dishonor to Your name but rather lift it up with the honor and majesty to You before the congregation. 4O11U19U
